In conjunction with World Hand Hygiene Day, our team launched a nationwide initiative to support more consistent infection prevention practices in surgical care.
Between 3 and 19 May, the programme engaged more than 2,000 healthcare professionals across 25 hospitals nationwide, including infection control specialists, surgeons and nursing teams. By working directly within clinical settings, the initiative focused on how evidence-based measures can be more consistently applied in day-to-day practice.
A key area of focus was antiseptic selection in high-risk surgical environments. Discussions highlighted the clinical performance of Betadine® Surgical Scrub, including its broad-spectrum efficacy and ability to remain effective in the presence of blood and organic matter, helping support reliable infection control during procedures. The programme also reinforced the role of pre-operative skin preparation with Betadine® Skin Cleanser, a simple step that can help reduce infection risk but is not consistently implemented.
By identifying variation in current practices across institutions and supporting practical, easy-to-apply measures, the initiative helped raise awareness of opportunities to strengthen infection prevention in routine care. Through continued collaboration with healthcare providers, we continue to support more consistent practices and contribute to safer surgical outcomes across Egypt.
